Drop Notes

Fourth collection by Vildsvinn titled “I’ll do what I want” put into words. Welcome!

Story

At Vildsvinn I like to think conceptually about our pieces, which spark curiosity and tell a story. I’ll do what I want, started as boiling personal frustration of my own 9-5 job and it came to unbearable levels. So going all in felt like the only breakthrough from this deadly cycle If not now, when??. Then thoughts started coming that artists tend to fight with this problem too. Message was clear, empower young artists on their journey towards unlimited artistry, with stories, shootings celebrating the tough breakthrough from this stereotype.
The aesthetics are still street driven expressing the strong desire for freedom from the youthful perspective, through the Vildsvinn language. As a breakthrough on the one hand is the from the vicious cycle, on the other hand from the mess and overblown strictness of the business sphere of life. We’ve tied it together as a caricature to the for us blind corporate grind. Suits, ties, briefcases, endless hassle and stress. EEEWWW! To this risograph posters were made on old newspapers which symbolise the overflow of negativity and sorrow into the society, despite it being mostly true. These posters were one of the pillars of our message.

Tee

Started as a typical shower idea with the corny clips of stressed businesspeople running around in suits and suddenly to one of those our newspaper poster flies in the face. That is what Adam, Oliver and Matík recreated at school. Blowing a handful of posters into Olivers face with a huge fan and snapping it in the middle of a class was something to remember. Blanks are the best quality ever Vildsvinn has used and the best we could get in central Europe with all the environmental and responsibility certificates for this price. Thank you Lenka, big time. Black shirt was the choice to diversification the portfolio. Additionally, we felt the need to update the structure of the t-shirt by sewing horizontal lines to create dynamic and alter how the shirt sits on you. Then came the hand-made, garage-made, raw, punk call it as you wish, screen printing at Samo’s studio. The newspaper in the face symbolised as an awakening from this vicious cycle.

Button Up

When we are caricaturing the corporate business side a button up cannot be missing. Looking for a perfect blank here was for a long run, so the decision to go thrifting and upcycle them was the best decision. Red spray paint both on the tee and the shirt are meant as a distinctive feature to stand out of the strict business crowd. The front shows a hand wearing a shirt and a wristwatch, printed using blurry halftones evokes stressful time shortage in the business sector. The back depicts a watch face where a stereotypical businessperson serves as the watch pointers, pointing the time 9-5, while holding in his hand a bag full of gear that he needs for art, but cannot use because of the time pressure.

Bandana

It’s been a dream of mine to design my own bandana. With a supplier responsible enough I got into designing. The bandana combines typical bandana layout with personal language, depicting the everyday carry of a street minded artist having all the tools that allow you to do what you want at hand.

Last words

I’ll do what I want as a collection coming from the ateliers of Vildsvinn is something that personally resonates with me and I hope that with most of you too. It’s been a project with ups and downs, but I am confident and proud to claim that it is yet the best one. When combining the aspects like resources, budget, time & energy, this drop took the most of them all, which I find awesome because it teaches us how to work with all different conditions and then come out with a full line up and vision. Here is lots to thank to for allowing me/us to do that.
